2017 Youth Community Leaders Conference

The 2017 Youth Community Leaders Conference will be held at the University of Ottawa campus on Monday, May 8, 2017. The conference is aimed at high school-aged youths that are interested in learning about social and environmental issues so that they can engage meaningfully with the nonprofit sector and make a positive impact.

Bringing together students from high schools throughout the National Capital Region, the full-day conference will engage students through interactive workshops, discussion groups and info-sessions on a variety of topics. The conference will be capped off by an evening time networking event, where students will have the opportunity to network with numerous organizations from the local nonprofit sector. The aim is to equip students with the information and inspiration they need to spring into action with some of Ottawa-Gatineau’s best not-for-profit organizations.

Topics included in the conference content will be related to the 10 Principles of Fair Trade, and include (among others):

  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Workers’ rights
  • Women’s empowerment
  • Economic equality
  • Protecting children
  • Access to clean water
